Washington Middle School

Washington Middle School is located on S. Jackson St. between 21st and 22nd Avenues. CADA began working with this school during the creation of the Central Park Trail. CADA coordinated and obtained project funding for several school beautification projects. The Garden of Memories and art mural were two major beautification projects.

Along the Central Park Trail, Washington Middle School connects the trail to Blanche Lavizzo Park. Through the suggestion of students, the Garden of Memories was incorporated along the trail. This garden pays tribute to students and staff that passed away. The garden's design was assisted by Nakano Dennis landscape architects. The Garden of Memories was completed in 1996.

In an effort to cover a long and blank barrier wall, a mural was created. The mural, based on student designs, depicts the many uses of the Central Park Trail. The project was assisted by Samaj, a local artist, Pratt Fine Arts, and community volunteers. The project was completed in 1997.
